Gimiak's last post...

... this year of course. ;] Well, I must admit that I'm a very slowly painter. Yesterday I've only finished librarian's staff and make some small correction on the left hand. That's it. Poor.

As for my previous post about choosing an army I've decided to colect Orks for Wh40k. They got a lot of fine detailed plastic models, cool poses, faces and sluggaz. I thought about an army rooster on Christmas and I decided to include some Nobz on foot, Stormboyz (15 - 20) and Nobz on warbikes... Actually not on warbikes but on cybork boars. There are new plastic Boar Boyz for WFB, which look very good, so I will use them as this unit. Ork army also need a powerful warboss! And there is one mini that fits this gap. A real warboss on boar, of course. The one, the only... Gorbad Ironclaw.

Maybe this army rooster will not be a powerful one, but I'll play it anyway. In March GW will realese some new minis for Orcs and Goblins for WFB, maybe I will find some other cool minis to include in my rooster intead of current minis. I always wanted to have a Feral Orks army. If there will be savage orks, then they will work perfectly as boyz. ;]

At the end I would like to wish you Happy New Year 2011.

Librarian and plans for first quarter 2011

Hi there,

On the begining I would like to post my progress on librarian with staff and book.

Today I'll further continue my work on him. As for 2011 first quarter plans... Well, I do have a lot of miniatures to paint but I've already choosen miniatures which I would like to paint. So here is the current list of models which I would like to paint in first quarter of the next year:
- 1 x librarian with staff and book (I'm sure I'll not winish this guy today)
- 3 x Assault Squad members
- 3 x Tyranid Raveners (plastic)
- 3 x Assault Squad members (the last ones from my first army rooster)
- 1 or 2 Stormravens (one in red color scheme, one in black (DC) color scheme)
- 1 x Imperial Guard Nork Deddog Ogryn Bodyguard.
I'll be very happy if I could finish these models in three months. Tyranids Raveners will be for sale. The last model - Nork Deddog - is an old IG model, which I would like to put in a small diorama. So stay tuned for more of my (boring) posts. :P

Gimiak's 2010 summary

Hi,

2010 is almost over and I think it is the best time to look back and make a small summary of a painted models in this year. Till today I've painted:
* for Blood Angels army:
- two Drop Pods
- three Razorbacks
- three Baal Predators
- one Landraider
- one Sternguard Veteran
- one original Lemartes, Guardian of the Lost (old model)
- ten Death Company models
- one Space Hulk Terminator #2
- one Reclusiarch / Chaplain
- nine Assault Squad models
* other:
- one Lizardmen Scar Veteran
- one Lizardmen Skink Warchief 1
- one Dwarf Lord 'tired after battle'
- one Daemons of Chaos Blood Crusher
- one Necron Lord with Resurrection Orb

So if I count correctly that makes 37 models. I'm satisfied with this number. I was hoping to finish my assault squads this year, but I couldn't make it. I've to make better pictures of each squad and put them on blog. Tomorrow I'll put my plan for first quarter of 2011.

almost ready...

Hi
Here's an almost finished Urien. Around 4-5 hours of painting left I guess. I can't really focus on painting this guy. I get distracted after 15 min painting, that's why it's taking me so long:/
There are few thing that needs to be done here: some more work on skin, belly, blood effects and slime and base.
the photo is quite poor but there will be better when I finish this mini.
hope I can finish it till new year
cheers! loler

Sanguinor, Exemplar of the Host is now ready to battle !!!

Hi,

At last he can fight for the glory of the God Emperor hehe. I planted him on a magnetized scenic base so he can be used for gaming. I enjoyed painting his golden armor and if someone wants to practice NMM this is the right model to practice.

If you are interested check him out on ebay because this miniature is for sale.

And let me know what do you think about him.

Libriarian's book

I don't know about you guys but I very like weekends. It's not that I'm not going to work, because I work at home, but on Friday and Saturday night I'm able to find some time and paint miniatures. I'm very happy about upcoming holidays, hopefully I'll have more time to paint. This Friday I've started to work with my librarian. In this configuration maybe he isn't a great playable character but since I've started to work on my Blood Angels I always wanted to paint him.

I decided that I'll paint him without help of an airbrush. I know that using airbrush I could paint this guy maybe better but my goal is to improve my painting skills. And painting the whole armour with regular brush is a good method, I think.

My previous Librarian's power armour was painted in deep blues (regal blue, shaded with badab black). This time I've started to work with Enchanted Blue, which I will mix with Space Wolves Grey.

For the book I've used Vermin brown as a basis and shade it with Asuremen Blue. Pages were painted with Dhebab Stone, which was shaded with Devlan Mud and Khemri Brown. On one of the pages I'll try to paint a holy grail using one of the Loler's tutorials (Freehand).

If you got any questions or sugesstions, please don't hesitate to ask or write them down.

Best regards,
Gimiak

Orks vs Tyranids!

Hi,

This title may suggest you tat this will be a battle report, but it wont be. I've played Warhammer 40,000 for a while. I've started with Tyranids with the previous edition. I evan paint a lot of cosmic bugs but with this year's new Tyranid codex release I've lost my desire to paint and play them. I've put a lot of efford to paint them and three of my clients should be happy to include my former tyranids in their armies. Till now I'm very, very satisfied with Blood Angels. In my humble opinion they aren't as good as Space Wolves, Dark Eldar and/or Iperial Guard but this army have a good potential with lot of options. In February Blood Angels players and collectors will receive two new kits. I will deal with it later when GW put new models in Advance Orders section on their website.

Anyway I want to write something about Nids vs Orks, which will not be a battle report. For around one week I walk with my head in clouds thinking about second army for WH40K. I decided not to create a 'killer power gamer army rooster', which could be very boring thing. Instead of this I'm thinking to start collecting army for lower range of points (around 750 - 1000) created just for fun. Yes, a totally different aproach with the new army. I check all the fractions in WH40K range and only two (to this day) look ok for me - Tyranids and Orks. On the beginning I discarded IG, SW and DE because some of my friends already have that armies and I didn't want to collect something which is already 'present' in our area. Both armies (TYR, ORKS) have some cool models which is a small problem. Mycetic Spores and Tervigons are elements which I miss in Tyranid codex, so probably I'll start to collect Orks. With all these cool characters like Snikrot, Zagstruk, Deff Dreads, Killa Kans and other nice models I really looking on the green side of life. ;) I know that maybe I'll not paint all the Boyz but the rest I will paint for sure!

Different aproach

Till now army collecting 'method' was same both for Tyranids, Blood Angels and Lizardmen - in quick time buy huge amount of models. This method is a little bit frustrating. With new army I'll try to buy not more then one or two boxes for month - so this will be also a small challange or me and my will. We will see, we will see.
If I choose Orks, I'll start with one of my favorites - Deff Dread - as a first model.

Gimiak

game option scenic base

Hello
As I said some time ago I made a little tutorial about making wooden bases for models meant both for playing and display cabinets.
First you'll need some kind of wooden plinth. You can buy it in castorama or other shops like that.

I'll use a drill like that

I put it to the driller and made a shallow hole.
If you don't have acces to things like that you can make your slot using some kind of putty like milliput. (Picture below shows photo of the base I made for space marines lemartes)
when the hole was ready, using chisel, I started to slice of some wood, to make it look interesting.

Next step was to take some cork and tear to smaller pieces. They are going to be little rocks:)
I took some bark and bigger wood pieces that I sliced of the plinth (bigger rocks)
Using PVA glue I affixed all rocks, a skull I found in my bits box and then sand

Finally I placed one magnet on plinth and one on the base, so that it's safe now to look at the miniature while holding it in your hands without a fear that it might fall on the floor:)
The modeling stage was complete. The next step was to paint everything black. I used airbrush for that.
Then using some lighter grey I airbrushed it from over the top of the mini, which gave me some natural shadows. Then I did the same with lighter grey to have some bigger contrast.
After airbrushing I did some brown washes and some drybrushing.
...painted the skull...
and that would be everything for now;)
I decided to leave it like to until I finish the model. I'll add some dead grass, maybe some other plants and then I'll paint the sides black.
Here you can see 2 examples of my finished bases: lemartes and archon

I hope this will help anyone. Sry for any mistakes in my English.
Regards, loler

First Assault Squad already finished

Hi,

It's Wednesday and I finally got some time to put pics of my first complete painted Assault Squad. In near future I will put better pictures of each of squads and vehicles. These aren't so good. Six guys more to go. They are already painted red but till the end of 2010 I'll work on my Librarian.

That will be all for now, stay tuned for more in near future.

Gimiak

Sanguinor - modeling the base - WIP

I managed to make some further progress with this project and I’m happy with the results. I wanted to use some gypsum plates and bricks that I bought recently and I think that they look very good and its easy to work with them. I bought them very cheap from allegro (polish equivalent of ebay) and I think its better to buy them but you can make some yourself.

Here you can see some unpainted bits that I used for the base.

Tomorrow I will finish painting this the base and I'l try to make a little step by step tutorial how I painted added some finishing touches for this base
I will make good photos of the finished model in few days so you can see and comment him.

Sanguinor almost finished :D

Hi. It has been a while since I posted something on our blog but I had problems with painting and finding time for it. Now with renewed strength I managed to almost finish this guy.

There is still some work to be done and I need to work on his red shoulder pads because they need more contrast, he also needs to have some inscriptions on his parchments and I must make a base for him. I will try to finish him soon so stay tuned.

Lugft Huron from Astral Claws - review

Hi there.

Me again. ;) Few days ago I've put a small review of one of the products from Forge World. Today I would like to continue my review looking deeply at Lugft Huron from Astral Claws. It looks very nice on FW website, but does it look that good in real life?

Standard FW transparent bag.

Complete kit

... and what do we get here? A "small" 1mm deep mold line...

I find that quality of this kit is very low. Elements on banner are... flat. This horrible mold line scares me a lot. I'll paint him next year, but before I could do it I've to prepare this model and I'm sure that cleaning part will take a lot of time.

Yesterday I manage a little amount of my time to paint my poor assault squads. Tomorrow I'll finally finish three of them. I've to paint backpacks and shoulder pads. The rest is painted. Ok, thats all of now.

Gimiak

MAGISTER SEVRIN LOTH and HG pack - review

Hi there,

Since dawn of time Forge World offers products which expand GW's WH40K miniature range. I didn't know anything about their products quality before I purchase Death Company's Rhino hatches. For around 10GBP plus few polish 'goldies' spend on it I was a little bit dissaponted. Recently they have put Magister Sevrin Loth and his honour guard for sale. This kit bothers me from the day they annouce it. This month, thanks to Hobbyt from Gloria Victis forum, I could finally put my hands on it.

The whole kit is a mix of resin and plastic. In the pack you receive complete Space Marines Command Squad (three frames, bases) plus resin parts to create Loth (body, 2 shoulder pads, two hands and back pack) and elements to create his honour guard. For the honour guard you receive:
4 x complete torso
8 x shoulder pad
4 x head
2 x power weapon
1 x banner

36 GBP plus shipping cost is not a small amount of money, but in my humble opinion this kit is worth of his price. You receive few really cool elements which could be used with your marines. Especially the torsos, heads and shoulder pads looks stunning. Parts from librarian Sevrin Loth are totally superb. I like librarians and maybe that's why this complete kit fits me, but if you're thinking about upcoming christmas gifts... this could be a very good one. I also purchased LUGFT HURON from Astral Claws, but I would like to write more about this kit in near future.

Ps: Since few weeks I've some serious job to do and my time is very limited. I'm (very) slowly painting my assault squads... I was hoping to finish them this year but looking at the size of my duties I'm sure that they will be finished in January 2011. One I'm sure, in the week of Blood Angels Storm Raven's realese I'll put all my efforts to paint this flayer in one week!
